Embodying the theme of transformation, this series focused on pushing the boundaries of double-walled vessels. Enclosing space within, they spread across as if captured at various stages of morphing. Each one is built intuitively, requiring every angle to be negotiated by hand multiple times to ensure balance across planes.

This series reflects on the identities women often leave behind to step up at home, work, and in their communities in times of great change. Inspired by the silhouette of a pinafore, from the artist’s childhood memories as well as a traditional symbol of women’s labor, these vessels pay tribute to the alternative selves that could have been.

Exploring double-sided surfaces in ceramic objects, this collection was created during a week-long intensive with Isabella Fazzo in the Tuscan region of Italy. All pieces are composed of sculpture clay with porcelain details, slipped and glazed intuitively, undergoing one single firing.
